Let me,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.photigy.com\/contributors\/alex-koloskov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #cc0000;\">Alex Koloskov<\/a>,<\/strong> briefly explain here how this can be achieved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #888888;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">1. The shooting technique<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The idea is simple: to slightly overexpose the foreground and slightly underexpose the background in one shot. I achieve this by using on-camera speedlite strobe (<a href=\"www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/486706-USA\/Canon_1946B002_Speedlite_580EX_II.html\/BI\/5495\/KBID\/6292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #cc0000;\">Canon 580EX II<\/a> in my case, but any other will work as well) and dialing Flash exposure compensation to +1EV (+-0.5EV) and dialing ambient exposure compensation to -1EV (+-0.5Ev).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Doing this allows the camera to capture things like a vivid blue sky even on slightly overcast days and have more contrast on everything by slightly underexposing the shot.<br \/>\nOn the other hand, additional power for a filling light (the strobe) adds brightness for anything in the foreground and visually separates the subjects from the background.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For all the shots below I&#8217;ve used the Canon <a href=\"www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/732107-USA\/Canon_4427B002_EF_8_15mm_f_4L_Fisheye.html\/BI\/5495\/KBID\/6292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #cc0000;\">8-15mm F4.0L fisheye lens<\/a>, and extremely wide viewing angle requires to have a diffuser on the flash (The 580EX has a built-in one, which is appreciated a lot:-)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Shooting Mode : Av (aperture priority), which means strobe works as a filling light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To see what this technique let me get out of the camera check the &#8216;before&#8221; images below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #888888;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">2. Post Production<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For creating such images I used <a title=\"Adobe Photoshop CS6\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/851171-REG\/Adobe_65170476_Photoshop_Extended_CS6_for.html\/BI\/5495\/KBID\/6292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #cc0000;\">Adobe Photoshop<\/a> and <a title=\"Color Efex Pro\" href=\"http:\/\/www.niksoftware.com\/colorefexpro\/usa\/entry.php?disc_id=alexkoloskov&amp;amp;bid=0b1a957a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Color Efex Pro plugin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Below is a step by step detailed description of the necessary steps:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Example #1<\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This is the photo with Adobe Camera RAW Default settings:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.photigy.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/1.png&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><b>1. Convert the image in Adobe Camera RAW. Of course, every image has slightly different ACR settings (true for all of the rest of the adjustments), and this is your task to find the best settings for the particular image. Please use this guide as a reference, not as user manual;-)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Apply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niksoftware.com\/colorefexpro\/usa\/entry.php?disc_id=alexkoloskov&amp;amp;bid=0b1a957a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #cc0000;\">Color Efex Pro Bleach Bypass<\/a> plugin:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.photigy.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/4.png&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Then I added a White Mask, chose a Black Soft Brush (opacity about 60%), and painted over the sky to get back details and the color of the sky.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.photigy.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5.png&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Merge all visible layers -&gt; Command\/Opt\/Shift +E <\/strong>for Mac or<strong> Ctrl\/Alt\/Shift +E <\/strong>for PC<strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Go to Menu\/Image\/Adjustments\/Shadows\/Highlights&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.photigy.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/6-8.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Dodge and Burn:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Create two Curves Adjustment Layers as shown on the picture below:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.photigy.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/8-4.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.19.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Hide these layers (<strong>Ctrl+I<\/strong> for PC\/ <strong>Command+I<\/strong> for Mac)<br \/>\n&#8211; Pick up the White Soft Brush with very low Opacity (about 6-10%) and paint over the Layer \u201cCurves 1\u2033 to illuminate parts of the image, and paint over the Layer \u201cCurves 2\u2033 where you want to add shadows.
