    Hello, what AF system is best suited for product photography, Phase Detection or Contrast Detection Autofocus?

      Hey! You have to set the focus point manually and shoot tethered to be able to evaluate the result no the big screen, that’s the best way to get a sharp image.

      Excuse me, I explained myself wrong. With Canon dslr cameras you can shoot with the mirror in the traditional way or with the “liveview” system that would be directly leaving the mirror raised as if it were a mirrorless one.

      hence my question, if there is any difference in using Phase Detection or Contrast Detection for product? regardless if the focus is manual or automatic

      Oh, I see. As far as I know, phase detection methods being widely used in sport or event photography since it’s faster though it requires good lighting conditions. I would still recommend using manual focus for any studio work, especially for small items where the focal plane should be set precisely 🙂
