I am working on the e-commerce jewelry course.

I was wondering what kind of lighting was used in this photo from Tiffany’s website. I am having trouble shooting gold on a white background. I cannot produce a uniform highlight/burnout that makes gold look life-like/metallic/luminous. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Leah

      Hi Leah,

It is not very easy to say exactly what light was used, however, I suspect the following:

      1. the top part of the piece is lit with a large light on top and a little behind the jewel
      2. the black parts are being achieved using some flagging system
      3. the highlights on the bottom are light coming back from the shooting surface.

Let me know what courses did you took from Photigy already and maybe I can recommend something more suited to your request.

      Stay safe & creative!

      Hi Andrei –

Thank you for the response. I am working on Luxury Jewelry Photography For E-Commerce, mostly rings. It would be great to get a recommendation.

      Hi Leah,

For the rings (with the ring standing up) just put two diffusers (left and right) and hit them with light. This will create beautiful gradients and light/dark alternance.

      Hope this helps.
