Hey Derek, could you attach some references so we can get a better idea of what you mean.

Create halo around edges of front element with strip boxes.
Black board hole cut in, shoot through not to get ugly reflection on center of front element.
Somehow light inside of lens showing aperture blades with gradients
or wide open highlighting internal parts with gradients.
Not being black hole inside.
