Lighting for 360 jewellery video

Hi, I wonder if anyong can help me please? The video lighting used in the 360 jewellery video course mentions this bulb: Polaroid Lighting 150-watt Equivilent 2200-Lumen PAR38 Dimmable LED Light, (it is here in the gear page /school/3d-digitizing-360-view-for-e-commerce/). I have spent some time trying to find this or something similar but I’m struggling to find an equivalent. I’m not sure if it is available anymore? I’m in the UK but I can’t see it available in the US either.
I found these 2 products on Amazon- I wondered if they might work if I removed the diffuser onthe top and created a gobo or snoot to attach? or paint the diffuser black and put a hole in it maybe?
I’m not sure if that will work and a bit worried about the fire risk with it – but I’d probably give it a try!

Hey Penny,
As can see, those bulbs you sent have some sort of semi-sphere, as you mentioned. So it would be hard to control light direction. Maybe it’s possible to remove the diffuser, you have to try.

Also, don’t forget you’ll need additional gear: studio stand, socket.

Hi Andrey,
Thanks so much for this – i will have a good look at those – initally I can’t see them in the uk and the shipping for the US is quite a bit, but I will have a better look as there might be something I missed so far. There must be something and if not i can DIY those ones i mentioned above.
But now I’m also thinking when I add in the price of the socket (I have a stand) it is beginning to add up a bit and I wonder if something like this lumecube would be an option if i spend a bit more – as i could get use out of it for other things too.
I don’t know if it’s bright enough though or if it’s worth the extra cost..it says 750 LUX @ 1M I think it needs to be brighter, would you agree? I’m a bit confused about the difference between lux and lumens!

This tiny guy definitely should brighter, I think it’s not worth it. I guess it provides around 12W, which is super low power for any kind of work even in the studio. For an additional $44 you can already get Godox SL-60, for example, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1341997-REG/godox_sl60w_5600k_60w_white.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

And it will be a monolight with Bowens bayonet! So you can attach any light modifier to it easily.
Honestly, I wouldn’t go with that bare LED bulbs trying to adapt to your needs. I understand your point of the budget solution, but as you said you’ll also need to buy a socket and figure out how to put all things together… Also the bulb should be dimmable in order to change the output power. Otherwise, it will just emit the light at max power.

Thanks for your response it was very helpful! I won’t get the lumecube light.

I haven’t bought anything yet but have been watching a few more lessons from the class and I see how Alex is using the large Godox lighting instead of the Polariod bulb to create the sparkle in some of the lessons.

After seeing that I was wondering if I could use the bulbs in my first post (or bulbs similar to the ones you suggested if i can find them) as part of the set up behind the translum diffusion to give extra diffussed light but not sparkle.
Then I could use one of my 100w Interfit lights (they’re similar to the Godox ones) with a gobo to get the sparkle.

So the set up I’m thinking of would be 2 x 100w interfit LED units (1 diffused, 1 as a hard light for sparkle), and then maybe 2-3 of the bulbs we were discussing previously to add more light in.
Do you think that could work? I think this would be about £70 ish for 2 bulbs and the sockets.

Or, the alternative would be if I bought 1 more 100w interfit unit. Do you think 3 of those units would make a good basic set up? This would be about £160, or I could add in the Godox unit at a similar price.

Thanks for all your help with this, if you have a chance it would be great to know your thoughts.

I used Godox SL150 and then a couple of the garage flood lights if I need more light to hit some smaller areas.
