    Hi,

I recently signed up to this course.

I need to shoot jewelry photos for my jewelry website and also create video in the long run.

I would like to know what sort of lights do i need? Do i need strobes for photography and led for video ?

I am currently shooting with a light tent and 2 x 150 W soft boxes and 3 x leds bought from a ware house. The light tent feels super limited in the setup up to get a professional looking photo.

I recently purchased a Sony a6300 with a 90mm macro lens. The camera is awesome i just need the right lighting to go with it now.

Can someone help me with some advice on lighting setup?

I have attached a few photos of similar quality im trying to achieve.

    Thank you,
    Jordan

      Hey Jordan,

In the course, Alex uses Godox SL100W
He covers all technical part in the course though, better to watch it first.

You can use these units to take pictures as well without questions. Also no need to buy additional light modifiers 🙂

You are talking about the 360 video he does. I am in the middle of watching that right now.
What about jewelry photos ? what sort of lights does this need?

Generally speaking, any light will do the job, even a bare LED light bulb. That’s more the question of your own preferences and budget. You can use same LED Godox units for jewelry photography as well, just keep in mind that you have to shoot in a relatively dark studio to prevent any interruption by other light sources.

Ok i understand. The problem i am having is when i put the lights at the front of the setup, the stone get a glare from the light its not a soft nice lighting. If i put it towards the back then the stones dont have that nice sparkle.

Yeah, thats because of the direction of light. Try making it with 2 lights maybe? Or use a snoot on the glare, and more softer light at the back?
