Image examples

Image examples below were generated from Sony RX10-II camera RAW using capture One 8 (free Sony version) and saved as Tiff, then opened in Adobe Photoshop CS6, resized and cropped when needed, and saved for web at Jpeg quality 60.

There was no sharpening or any other adjustment applied (except shadow/highlight recovery where applicable). Capture One export to uncompressed TIFF were performed at default values.

Update: Sony RX10-II vs Sony a7-II in-studio images

For this test we used broncolor strobes, ISO 100 on both cameras, autofocus set by camera and turned off after.

On both Sony RX10-II and Sony a7 we set aperture f9, at around 100mm zoom. On Sony a7-II we had Sony FE 70-200mm f/4.0 G OSS Lens

Conclusion

I have this Sony RX10-II with me only for a few days, and there is no verdict yet:-) However, from what I see based on image quality, this camera is way below the quality of what Sony a7 with 35mm F2.8 Lens delivers.

Sensor is too small to deliver acceptable (for me) image quality.  The only hope for this camera is to be outstanding video performer.

I’ll post sample videos including hight speed (you’ve seen one on the test video already), 4K and HD on a second part of this review.

UPDATE:

The image quality form a tiny sensor is not good enough – for me. However, this must be one of the best image quality from 1” sensor.
