These are actually two red shoes (see raw) and red paint that I have changed in photoshop. The paint is children’s finger paint, water-soluble and more of a gel than a liquid that I diluted with water to a suitable viscosity.
The boxes each consist of the three visible sides, which I cut out of white cardboard and fixed with adhesive paste (see setup-2).
In terms of composition, I tried to get as close as possible to the original image.
Due to the low viscosity of the paint, I was able to use continuous light and expose with a relatively long shutter speed.
