Techniques For Lighting To Catch Diamond Sparkles in Product Videos?

Hey guys, I need some help.

I was having a look at some product videos for jewelry, and something caught my eye.

SPARKLES.

Check out this Instagram account and video to get an idea of what I mean:

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to replicate the sparkle effect for the diamonds and stones on the jewelry shown in the videos I linked above?

I have tried a few ideas myself, but I couldn’t get the same result.

If you look at this screen capture from the video, you can see that there is at least one hard light source being used (you can see its reflection in the metal and in the gemstone facets). You need hard lights to create the sparkle (LED point lights work well) and soft light for filling in shadows and providing balanced lighting overall. Experiment with black cards to create some contrast in the reflections as well.
