Can anyone help? How do i set the correct white balance for catalogue shots of product? I recently did a shoot using a grey card and the client complained the colouring was not exact? Does anyone have any advice for me please obviously the grey card wont work for me anymore. Or a link to a good YouTube tutorial there are just so many options out there?

    Thanks in advance

      Hello Malka,
The most accurate color will be after using a color check card – it’s not only grey but many colors that will be matched.
I was using color checker passport, and youtube is full of videos about it. one of them, looks good to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwg9k2C1pek

Hi Malka, In addition to the colour checker, be sure to have your monitor calibrated too. Your environment will affect your monitor too, such as what the colour of your walls are, plus your rooms lighting colour. Having the colour checker in studio won’t help unless your monitor is calibrated correctly too.

Lastly, also bear in mind that although us photographers use colour checkers, grey cards, and calibrated monitors to keep our colours true, our clients and general public do not have calibrated monitors or cellphone screens. So when they view your photos on their side, who knows what their monitors are looking like. They may have their brightness and contrast set to suit their eyes and environment, plus no calibration. So it is an up hill battle keeping everyone happy in this colour world.

The only place true colour comes 100% in to place, in my experience, is in the printing world. I come from the flexographic printing industry in my past. If your photos were to go to print, how true to product colour will they be? In printing the colours printed will need to be exact to be able to reproduce in print correctly.

      Hope this helps a little.
      Cheers, Lisa.
